John Updike is an important American neo-realism writer after World War II.His novels are marked controversial by critics who believe that his works emphasize too much on form rather than content, which result in'moral void'or'moral sloth'.From the perspective of writer's understand-ing of the world, moral dilemmas in life and irony on the philosophical level, this paper explores the writer's intention of adopting vague moral perspective. What is hidden behind the intentional blankness in his works is the writer's serious thinking of faith and moral issues.
