Honored as a master of realistic novels and a forerunner of modem detective fictions, Charles Dickens ingeniously combines traditional detective -storyfactors with his social problem novels. In this way, he not only exploits the potentiality of the detective fiction, but also highly upgrades his works in entertainment and readability. The present author extracts the detective- story -factors from Our Mutual Friend, the swan song of Dickens, analyzes their artistic effects on the novel and thus his enlightenment for the future generation.
