摘要
薇拉·凯瑟短篇小说《菲德拉的婚姻》的表层文本延续《精灵花园》集的主线书写,反映了男女之间、艺术家与非艺术家、情欲世界和理想世界的二元对立。这些二元对立项并非单纯的并置,故事的含义深藏于其中,其秩序被颠覆、被倒置,即女优于男,非艺术家优于艺术家,理想世界优于情欲世界,反映了凯瑟以一种崭新的、变革性的角度审视了婚姻中的男女关系,以及艺术家与非艺术家对待艺术的态度。
The surface text of Willa Cather's The Marriage of Phaedra a continuation of the main theme of The Troll Garden,which repudiates the conditions of the male / female,artist / non- artist,realistic world / ideal world binary oppositions. However,these binary oppositions are not a simple juxtaposition. The deep meaning of the story lies beneath these dichotomies,in which the order is suspected and inverted,that is,the later is better than the former,thus reflecting Cather's views on marriage between man and woman as well as artist and non- artist's attitude toward art.
