This article mainly focuses on the bookWenxuan’s instructiveness to the research on the third century literature as well as its limitations. Compared with its contemporary literary criticism works,Wenxuan plays an effective role in defining representative writers. However,Wenxuan plays a limited role in defining literary style and representative works as a result of ignoring the Ode, a genre praising objects and emerging massively during Wei and Jin Dynasties.
