翟理斯（Herbert Allen Giles,1845-1935）,19世纪末、20世纪初在英国乃至整个西方影响最大的汉学家。他一生著述及译作很多,书籍文章多达百余种,所涉及的内容相当广泛。他所翻译的汉诗在当时影响深远,长期以来被认为是韵体翻译的典范。文章系统讨论分析他汉诗翻译的理论与实践。

Herbert Allen Giles was one of the most influential sinologists in England as well as in the western world during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. He wrote many works and articles and translated many Chinese works, the number of which is about one hundred covering comprehensively in contents. His translation of Chinese poetry was particularly influential, among which the rhymed poems have been regarded as the models of rhymed verse for a long time. This article aims to systematically discuss and analyse Giles’translation theory and practice on Chinese poetry.
