Theory of gentleman in The Analects of Confucius and its practical significance

儒家文化是中国传统文化的核心组成部分。儒家创始人孔子丰富了"君子"的内涵,塑造了理想社会秩序的理想人格。然而孔子的"君子"与能够适应现代社会的"人",有其一致的一面,亦有其冲突的一面。从分析孔子生活的时代背景入手,以《论语》为基础阐述孔子君子论的内涵。然后根据中国社会主义初级阶段市场经济的现状,在孔子君子论探究的基础上对其进行现代性转换,使孔子"内圣外王"的君子更具有现实意义。

The Confucian culture is the core of Chinese traditional culture. Confucius,the founder of Confucianism, has enriched the connotation of“gentleman”,shaping the ideal personality of social order. The Confucius’s“gen-tleman”,however,is both consistent with and in conflict with the people who can adapt to the modern society. Start-ing from the background of Confucius’s life and the book The Analects of Confucius,this article elaborates the con-notation of the theory of gentleman. According to the status quo of Chinese socialist market economy,based on the exploration of theory of gentleman in The Analects of Confucius,this article conversed it to be a modern theory of gentleman,making the“internal saint and external king”more practically significant.
