基于语料库的译者风格研究——以鲁迅小说两个英译本为例

A Corpus-based Study of Translator's Style in the Two English Versions of Lu Xun's Fiction

本文尝试采用语料库的研究方法,对鲁迅小说两个英译本的翻译进行对比研究,分别从词汇层面和句子层面考察两位译者的翻译风格和策略。分析结果表明,两个译本都显现出独特的风格:威廉·莱尔的译本冗余度显化特征显著,词汇丰富,句式复杂,书面语特征明显,阅读难度相对较大;而杨宪益的译本用词简单,句式简洁,更符合源语意合的语言特点和原文洗炼含蓄的风格。

The paper conducts a corpus-based comparative study of the two English versions of Lu Xun＇ s fiction, and thereby investigates the styles and strategies employed by the two translators on lexical and syntactic level respectively. Results show that each version has its unique style ： William Lyell＇ s version, with abundant vocabulary and complex sentence structures, is redundant, and thus difficult to read, while Yang Xianyi＇ s version with simple words and concise sentences is consistent with both the linguistic feature of parataxis in the source language and the refined and reserved style of the original text.
