The Color Purple ,a novel written by the acclaimed black woman writer Alice Walker, shapes a black woman,Cel-ia,who prolongs her survival under racist and sexist pressures. The work also depicts her arduous journey from obedience to awakening,as well as her rewarding pursuits of spiritual and personality independence through struggles. In an effort to ex-plore the reasons for black women's deplorable fate and the approach to escaping such a fate,Walker proposes a creative theo-ry,i.e.“womanism”,which differs from traditional black feminism, and recommends a feasible way for black women to live in harmony with black men.The gist of womanism is also displayed from multiple angles in the work.
