CNPC cosponsored the 3rd Asian Gas Market Forum with SINOPEC and CNOOC in Beijing on Dec 17 th, 2014. About 200 noted representatives attended from domestic and international businesses, government and academia including from Singaporean governmental agencies and the IEA, gas importers and city gas companies from India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, exporters from Malaysia, Australia and other countries, Shell, BP, Total, Statoil, Gaz de France and other international oil and gas companies, and experts from internationally renowned energy research consultancies including IHS, Wood Mackenzie and FACTS Global Energy. The theme of the meeting was 'Transformation and Vitality in the Asian Gas Market'. More than 22 natural gas experts from around the world gave excellent presentations and engaged in in-depth discussion around the topics of structural changes in the global natural gas market, new opportunities offered by Asian gas market changes, drivers of Asian gas market transformation, how to enhance the market's vitality and promote its development in Asia, the role of policies and mechanisms in the healthy development of the natural gas market, and other issues. The meeting has reached the following 6-part consensus: 1) World natural gas market will need to rebalance from the gap between abundant supply and weak demand. 2) Diversification of the LNG market will lead to a decline in project earnings. 3) The economic slowdown and energy substitution increase will make Asian natural gas demand growing slowly. 4) Strengthened cooperation is essential amid the gas-market changes. 5) More ways will need to be found to increase the flexibility of the Asian gas market. 6) China's gas market needs clearer policy.
