Perhaps this colorful imaginary silk ribbon that spanned thousands of miles was tied in a knot to a flawless piece of Hetian jade lying at the foot of the Kunlun Mountain. There at an oasis called Khotan in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region the trade perhaps began.
