Soft rocks are a critical geomaterial presenting several kinds of problems. They present undesirable behaviors such as low strength, disaggregation, high plasticity, slaking, weathering and other characteristics. These behaviors prevent their utilization or tend to avoid sites dominated by soft rocks for important engineer- ing undertakings, which can lead to the need for a better under- standing of soft rocks and the developing of adequate solutions for the problems they pose.
