封是旋转轴用的一种密封装置。由两个在弹簧力和密封介质静压力作用下互相贴合并作相对转动的动、静环构成密封。当密封介质的压力全部作用在动、静环上时,称为"非平衡型机械密封"。如从结构上采取措施(多将主轴或轴套作有台阶)平衡了部分介质压力,称为"平衡型机械密封"。
