杨燕起先生的《史记》研究成果丰硕,其研究注重基础工作,着力探索《史记》史学价值。在基础研究方面,杨先生参编出版的《历代名家评史记》《史记研究资料索引和论文专著提要》《史记精华导读》等著述,注重学术资料性、目录提要性及普及性,促进了《史记》研究的发展;《史记的学术成就》通过对《史记》背景、体例、思想等方面的论述,汇通"史记学"研究并基本建构"史记通论"的规模体制,对《史记》研究具有指导性意义;在《〈史记〉的体例与通变》《司马迁的〈史记〉与中国史学的自觉》等文章中,杨先生对《史记》的体例、中国史学的自觉等提出了独特的观点。

Yang Yanqi has achieved greatly in the research of Historical Records, and he stresses on the basic work to explore the historical value of Historical Records. In the basic research, Yang was devoted to compiling the books such as Historians’ Com？ments on Historical Records, Historical Records Research Data Indexing and Papers Monographs Abstract, and A Guidance to Essence of Historical Records, which focuses on the academic values, the simplicity of the contents and the books’ popularization, to promote the development of Historical Records research. The book, Academic Achievement of Historical Records, is based on the back？ground, style and thoughts in Historical Records, combining the basic construction of the research of Historical Records and its style of comments on Historical Records to make the reference to the research of Historical Records. In his research essays, such as The Style and Its Changes of Historical Records, Sima Qian’ s Historical Records and Chinese History’ s Consciousness, Yang expounds his unique views about Chinese history’ s consciousness.
