This study aims to explore the effect of a family' s social-economic status on the peer relationship of left-at-home children (rural children left at home by their parents seeking employment in cities), by surveying 516 adolescents from 6 secondary schools. 1'he results show the following: the left-at-home children surveyed show a worse peer relationship than those children living at home with their parents after school; the left-at-home children receive less respect and acceptance from their peers; the families of the left-at-home children have a sig- nificandy lower social-economic status, which has a significantly bad effect on the left-at-home children's peer relationship; the educational background of the left-at-home children's parents, especially that of their mothers, and their family income, can be used to predict their peer relationship; their mothers' educational ground can be used to significantly predict the respect and acceptance from their peers, and their family income can be used to significantly predict the acceptance and neglect from their peers. The study concludes that the future study is sup- posed to probe into the effect of a family' s social-economic status on the peer relationship of left-at-home children.
