视域融合概念驱动下的隐喻翻译路径研究

Horizon Fusion-Driven Path Schema of Metaphor Translation

翻译隐喻需要结合语言学、心理学、阐释学、文化学等学科知识才能进行。在本文中,笔者借助德国当代哲学家伽达默尔的视域融合概念探索隐喻的翻译路径图式。从视域融合视角来看,隐喻的翻译过程是译者视域、原作者视域、原隐喻文本视域(第一过程)、目的语隐喻文本视域、目的语读者视域(第二过程)等视域不断发生融合的过程。笔者指出了当前隐喻翻译存在的问题,讨论了视域融合角度下的翻译(理解)过程,在其启示下提出了隐喻翻译路径图式,并通过杨宪益夫妇英译的鲁迅作品加以例证。

Metaphor translation can only be properly conducted in the light of linguistics, psychology, hermeneutics, culture studies and other appropriate disciplines. In this article, the author explores the path schema of metaphor translation from the perspective of Fusion of Horizons, a concept proposed by the contemporary German philosopher, Hans-Georg Gadamer. From this perspective, metaphor translation passes through an ongoing fusing process of horizons （namely the area of vision） , among translator（s）, origina/author（s）, original metaphor（s）, target language text metaphor（s） and target language readers. The author points out the problems with existing approaches to metaphor translation, discusses the process of metaphor translation/ understanding from the perspective of horizon fusion, and then puts forward arguments for the path schema of metaphor translation, as exemplified in the translations of Lu Xun＇ s works by Yang Xianyi and his wife, Gladys Margaret Tayler.
