On Group Images in Personalization and Conceptualization——Comparative Study of Characterization between Outlaws of the Marsh and The Hakkenden

曲亭马琴的《八犬传》在人物创作上存在对《水浒传》有意识的模仿和改造。比较两部作品可以发现,二者都塑造传奇式的英雄群像,他们都具有阳刚之美,快意恩仇,重视兄弟之义,同时具有不好女色的普遍特征;然而,二者在人物身份设定、命运的安排上存在差异,相较而言,水浒英雄的形象显得丰满生动,而八犬士的形象塑造具有概念化的倾向。

In the creation of characters The Hakkenden reflects imitation and transformation of Outlaws of the Marsh. Comparing the two works, we can find that both the two works create a group of heroes with the legendary, who have the beauty of masculinity, brotherhood of justice, also have the common characteristics of no lewd. However, there are differences in the identity and fate about characterization between the two works, that is, heroes in Outlaws of the Marsh are full of vivid image, but heroes in The Hakkenden show conceptualizations.
