摘要
亚当和卡西是斯坦贝克创作的小说《伊甸之东》中的两个重要角色,分别代表善与恶。文章分析他们身上所具有的福柯式恐惧,通过分析恐惧在褶皱、分裂、重组和异化的过程中如何使性、话语与权力交织并互相作用,最后得出结论:生活的激情源于恐惧,恐惧使人具有爱和生产的力量,也使人具有毁灭一切的力量。
Being two main characters in East of Eden written by Steinbeck,Adam represents the virtue while Cathy stands for the evil.The thesis aims to interpret Foucauldian fright that Adam and Cathy possess,and to analyze how fright takes effect on making sex,dialogues and power intertwine and interact with each other during the periods when fright is folding,splitting,recombining and alienating.The paper draws a conclu-sion that the passion of one's life springs from fright,and it can enable someone possess the power of love and production,as well as the power of destruction.
