This paper introduces and discusses the definition and classification of impoliteness in the field of pragmatics, compares the imbalanced theoretical research between politeness and impoliteness, and illustrates the significance of investigating the impolite speech acts. It also reviews the relevant study of impolite speech acts both at home and abroad, and looks into the future of the research.
