Applied linguistics, as a cross-discipline closely related to English teaching, is a new research discipline China＇s educators have just dabbled in. In promoting the concrete establishment and improvement of English teaching system, applied linguistics plays an irreplaceable role. In addition to enhancing the fun of English teaching, applied linguistics can also improve the teaching quality, optimize and perfect English teaching system. With applied linguistics as the object of exploration, based on an analysis of the value and application of applied linguistics, this paper focuses on the guiding and promoting role of applied linguistics for English teaching, helps educators understand the important significance of applied linguistics to English teaching, and provides solid and effective measures for modernized reform of English teaching.
