HIV and HCV frequently coexist because of their similar routes of transmission. Both viruses are mainly transmitted by exposure to contaminated blood or blood products, sexual contact, mother-to-child transmission and intravenous drug use. HIV/ HCV co-infection rate is high. There are complex interations of HIV with HCV and multiple disease courses in the co-infected patients. So they are more difficult to be treated. The authors describe the progress of the interactions of HIV and HCV and antiretroviral treatment in HIV/HCV co-infected patients.
