"艺术学理论"作为一个学科的名称,有些遗憾甚至是有缺陷。它不像一个学科的命名,让人们感到困惑,不清楚它的学科性质与特征。研究者在使用这个学科的概念时,在描述研究对象时,会有名不正、言不顺的感觉。学科名称通常惯例是"学"的词语置于"主体"词之后,表示的是学科类别系统的知识体系,但"艺术学理论"却将"学"置于学科"主体"名称的中间,不伦不类。这是造成人们对这个学科认识较为混乱的原因之一。如果将"学"置于"艺术理论"主体词之后,更名为"艺术理论学"、"理论艺术学"或"艺理学",则体现了学科的命名惯例,也凸显了艺术理论的学科性质和特征。这样艺术学的5个一级学科,全部都对应了:"艺术理论学"(或"理论艺术学"、"艺理学")、"音乐与舞蹈学"、"美术学"、"戏剧与影视学"、"设计学",它们都是将"学"置于"主体"的后位。

As a disciplinary name, arts theory is not perfect. It is not like a disciplinary nomination. People are puz- zled since they do not know its disciplinary nature and features. Researchers who use the concept and describe the re- search object feel not comfortable. The nomination sounds neither rhyme nor reason, which causes people ＇ s confusion on the discipline. We could change it into arts theory study, theoretical arts science, or arts principle study, and this reflects the discipline nomination convention, and highlights the disciplinary nature and features of arts theory.
