南社人兴办女学的诉求与困境——从苏苏女学说起

Appeals and Dilemma in Founding Women's Schools by Nanshe Members——Susu Women's School as A Case in Point

兴办女学在20世纪初蔚为大观,其中由南社人创建或参与的女学数量众多,苏苏女学即为典型代表。透过这所民办女学堂的创建宗旨与经历,可以清晰地看到南社人对女学教育不同于改良派的全新诉求,也可以在体味其艰难维持之余,分析造成这种困境的多方面原因。由于苏苏女学身上所体现出的问题带有一定的普遍性,由此也可获取到探查20世纪初民间办学与女子教育概况的独特视角。

At the beginning of the twentieth century,founding women＇s schools presented a splendid sight. Nanshe members founded or participated in the foundation of numerous such schools,Susu being a typical case. Judged from the founding principles and teaching experience of this private women＇s school,it is apparent that Nanshe members held brand new appeals different from that of reformists. This paper also means to show deep sympathy to their running difficulties and analyze the latent causes.The problems faced up with Susu show a certain degree of universality,which offers a unique perspective to explore private schools and women＇s education in the early twentieth century.
