摘要
19世纪,关于在英属印度施行何种教育模式,引发了东方学派与英语学派之间的大辩论。1835年麦考利的《印度教育备忘录》和本廷克总督的《印度教育决议案》结束了这场大争论。尽管两派的最终目的都是为了维护英国在印度的殖民统治,但是,在客观上它促进了印度教育的现代化。
A fierce debate with regard to the best mode of education for Indians came into existence between Orientalists and Anglicists in the first half of the nineteenth century. Thomas Babington Macaulay's infamous minute of 1835 and the resolution of 1835 of Governor-General Lord Bentinck marked the end of the fierce debate. Although the ultimate goal of both sides was to maintain the British colonial rule in India, they played a role in the education modernization of India.
