As an immigrant descendant of Hispanic minority, Sandra Cisneros put her life experience into that of the heroine and created The House on Mango Street, which was regarded as a typical Hispanic female initiation story. Through analyzing the growth experience of heroine Esperanza in the immigrant com-munity with the basic elements and the female archetype of female initiation story, this paper explains Es-peranza’s growth which is a journey full of dreams, reflecting her pursuit of a unique female identity of eth-nic minority.
