Objective To investigate the expression of LMO-1 and LMO-4 in human glioma and normal brain tissues and evaluate their clinical significance. Methods The levels of LMO-1 and LMO-4 in brain specimens collected from 46 patients with gliomas and 19 normal controls were measured by quantitative real-time PCR. The relationship between these expressions and pathological grade were also analyzed. Results LMO-1 expression in brain specimens of glioma patients was statistically higher than that in the controls. Compared with that in low- grade gliomas, the levels of LMO- 1 in high- grade gliomas were significantly increased. There was a positive correlation between LMO-1 expression level and the pathological grade of gliomas. LMO-4 mRNA levels were higher in glioblastoma multiform than the well-differentiated glioma and normal brain tissues. Conclusion The expression of LMO-1 and LMO-4 are elevated in glioma patients. They may participate in the occurrence and development of glioma.
