Patrick Modiano, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2014, has created a series of autobiographical novels in his literary career. Set in the Germanoccupied Paris during WWII, these works represent the lives of common people tested and tempered by history to probe into the plight of human survival. Devotion to themes such as whimsical identity, fragile memory and perplexing adolescence, combined with his unique art of memory, enables Modiano to evoke through fiction "the most ungraspable human destinies."
