The GOP won a complete victory in the 2014 Midterm Election. For Democratic electoral losses, the key reason among others is unfavorable political environment caused by voters' declining support for President Obama,by their dissatisfaction with the direction the nation is heading, and the federal government's failure in dealing with political, economic, and diplomatic problems the country faces. To take control of the Senate is the key battle in the 2014 election. The political pattern of the 'divided government',in which one party controls the Congress and the other controls the White House after Republicans hold the Senate, will curb Obama's policy agenda in his final two years of presidency, and intensify the executive and congressional conflict, which will reach more legislative deadlock and policymaking stalemate. The 2014 Midterm Election has also solidified the trend of the Republican 'southernization' and increased the polarization of state politics.
