在日本文学史上,曾经出现一个汉诗的创作高峰期,就是平安时代(公元794-1192年)。这个时期的日本,汉文学昌盛,和歌文化一度中断,产生的"敕撰三集"就深受中国唐代以及唐代之前诗歌的影响,作家们借鉴和模仿中国古诗词创作出了许多汉诗,其中嵯峨天皇的[折楊柳]明显是对梁简文帝的[折杨柳]一诗的借鉴和学习,是整个时代汉诗创作的缩影。
