孙思邈以象论天人相应,以象论寿夭,善于借梦象来诊断脏腑的疾病,以望面色来诊断五脏病证,擅于透过脉象、脉形等判断机体状态,据象选方择法,还运用象思维发明导尿技术,用于尿潴留的急症处理,运用苇筒灸治中风口歪证。

Sun Simiao explored the man＇s relevant to nature and life span from images. He is good at diagnosing visceral diseases from the ＂ dream images＂ and complexion,determining the body condition through the type of pulse and the shape of the pulse,and choosing formulas and strategies through images. By applying the ＂ image thinking＂,he invented urethral catheterization technique for dealing with acute uroschesis. He performed reed moxibustion to treat wry mouth due to stroke.
