The hazard of electric arc inside the medium and low voltage switchgear was introduced. The features of ABB REA arc protection system were expounded. Taking an 110 kV substation as example,the application results of various protection schemes were analyzed and compared,and the conclusion is that the arc protection is the optimal protection scheme.
