Extracting living bear bile has initiated serious public debate. Discussions on the substitute of bear gall bladder in traditional Chinese medicine need to be strengthened. By surveying and comparing the published data,this article found that,there are several possibilities for the substitution. The bile of some animals has the similarities with the bear bile both in medical functions and in active chemical compounds.
