由少数民族入主中原建立的元朝和清朝,都有夏都的建设。夏都是行都的一种,从表面上看,它是帝王避暑和休闲办公的地方,但其更深层的用意,在于加强与边疆民族的联系,处理各种边疆事务,以及进行外事活动等,在历史上发挥了重要作用。

The summer resort capital was built as a kind of temporary capital in both the Yuan and Qing Dynasties which were set up after ethnic groups conquered the Central Plain. On the surface, it was a summer resort place for emperors to handle office business and to enjoy leisure time, but actually, it played an important role in both strengthening their relation with ethnic minorities in frontier areas and handling frontier and foreign affairs.
