Objective: To investigate the relationship of the calcaneus bone mineral density of the elderly people with the gender, age and hand grip strength to provide a reference for the prevention and intervention of the osteoporosis of the elderly people. Methods: The survey was done for 429 elderly cases whose age was over 60 years old in the community and the contents of the survey including the age, gender, the right calcaneus bone mineral density and both hand grip strength, and their results were statistically analyzed. Results: The average both hand grip strength and bone mineral density of the male were better than those of the female(P〈0.05), the bone mineral density in the group ≤70 years old was superior to that in the group 70 years old(P〈0.05), and the bone mineral density in the group of the hand grip strength 28 kg was superior to that in the group of the hand grip strength ≤28 kg(P〈0.05). Conclusion: The hand grip strength and bone mineral density of the elderly male were superior to those of the female. The bone mineral density and both hand grip strength of the elderly had the negative correlation to the age and the positive one to the both hand grip strength.
