Pottery Bases of Coin-shedding Trees and Those of Lamps

汉代的陶钱树座与陶灯座之间存在一些相似之处,因而会出现被误认的情形。本文通过对两件目前被学者们认为是"钱树座"的陶器座进行观察和对比,初步认为它们都应该是东汉晚期组合式陶灯的一个组成部分——陶灯座。由此看出,汉代某些单体陶器与组合式陶器的某些组成部分之间存在着相似的地方,需留意这些器物的独特之处,以便复原其真实面貌。

There is some similarity between Han Period pottery bases of coin-shedding trees and those of then lamps, so people of later times are not always able to discern the difference of the two kinds of articles. Through an examination and comparison of two pottery bases that are taken among scholars as bases of coin-shedding trees, the present author comes to the preliminary conclusion that both objects are pottery bases of lamps of the late Eastern Han Period. This indicates that there exists resemblance between some single-bodied artifacts of the Han Period or between the same-type component parts of combined articles of those times. Therefore one should be careful with the distinctive features of such objects so as to reveal the reality.
