With the development of economic globalization,it is the requirement of the development of Chinese society in the new era to explore the innovative path of English teaching in higher education institutions,to have the aid of Positive Transfer Theory and to inherit the essence of Chinese culture. By exploring the classification of the application value of Positive Transfer Theory in English teaching,the article has established the core connotation of Positive Transfer Theory and its link to the English teaching in higher education institutions. It also discusses the application of Positive Transfer Theory in English teaching. The study shows that application of the Positive Transfer Theory to English teaching in colleges and universities can both improve the efficiency of English teaching and cultivate the students＇ cross- cultural awareness and communication competence.
