Zhejiang's Position in the Opium War

根据大量的英方档案和中方档案及实物史料,证明在鸦片战争中英国侵略者把浙江作为首选的侵占目标,是英国政府蓄谋已久的战略部署,这与当时粤闽海防的强弱并无关系。无论从英军侵华战略的进攻方向、重点,还是从浙江战场对英军和清政府的影响来看,浙江是鸦片战争的主战场毋庸置疑。

Based on both English and Chinese archives as well as living historical materials, the author tried to approve that the invasion of Zhejiang as the first target in the Opium War was a set plan of British government, and was irrelevant with the enhancing defending forces in Guangdong and Fujian coasts. Through a study of British forces＇ attacking direction and priority, as well as Zhejiang battlefield＇s influence on Qing armies and British forces, the author holds the viewpoint that Zhejiang is the main battlefield during the Opium War.
