历史典籍英译的“深度描写”研究——以倪豪士英译《史记》为例

Translation Research from the Perspective of Thick Description—— A Case Study of The Grand Scribe's Records

"深度描写"是人类学中普遍使用的强调细节描写和阐释的研究方法,而"深度翻译"是"深度描写"在翻译中的直接体现。本文以倪豪士英译《史记》为例,对作为"深度描写"的翻译研究涵盖的四个层次:翻译事件本身、译者的翻译动机、翻译决策和社会文化语境、对本研究的反思进行了探讨,研究发现:"深度描写"的翻译方法对中国历史典籍的外译具有重要的指导意义。

＂Thick description＂ which emphasizes detailed description and interpretation is widely used in anthropology. This paper discusses the four levels of translation study on the basis of The Grand Scribe＇ s Records translated by William H. Nienhauser from the perspective of thick description： the translation itself, the translator＇s intention, translation strategy and the cultural context and reflection on the study.
