Angela Carter' s rewriting of fairy tales has caught the attention of many literary critics, for she has actively and consciously probed into the issue of gender and sexuality in her works. This paper mainly discusses how she deconstructs gender norms in her short story collection The Bloody Chamber in which the authoress focuses on three short stories, including The Courtship of Mr. Lyon, The Bloody Chamber, and The Tiger's Bride. Drawing on the theories of Jacques Lacan and Judith Butler, this paper attempts to explore how Carter has revealed the gen-der norms in traditional fairy tales and how she has deconstructed them in her works.
