Most of the geographic names mentioned in Wang Wei' s poem "On the Encouraging Royal Mission to the Fortresses on the Northern Frontier" has the features of general or phantom reference by using the Han dynasty allusions to make an analogy to the similar martial affairs in the Tang Dynasty, so as to make his whole poem permeated with his strenuous and enterprising passionate pride. Wang Wei was sent to encouraging royal mission for interior and exterior reasons, the interior of which is his early motivation with lofty sentiments of any chivalrous man, and the exterior of which includes his duty of taking the office of a supervisory censor and undertaking the royal commission to bring royal gifts to the officers and soldiers in the northern frontier army in recognition of their services, and also involves his external contributor that is the fact that there existed the partisan struggles and the political upheavals in the current royal court.
