Modern Public Opinion Control and Social Change in Hunan Province in the Late Qing Dynasty

较之传统舆论,清末以报刊为媒介的舆论更多地加入了现代元素,所控制的地域范围增大、人数增加,极大地推动了湖南社会变革。同时,作为一种控制民众思想的手段,舆论形成的过程即是对舆论激烈争夺的过程,随着清末湖南舆论控制力量的增加,统治者也逐渐加强了对舆论的控制。

Compared with traditional public opinion, public opinion using newspapers as the medium had more modern elements in the late Qing Dynasty. It influenced more areas and people, and greatly promoted the social change in Hunan Province. At the same time, as the means of controlling minds, the process of public opinion formation is the process to take the control rights of public opinion. With the increase of control power of Hunan public opinion in the late Qing Dynasty,rulers also gradually strengthened the control of the public opinion.
