On the Orthodox View of History in China——Inspired by “Why is Sima Guang Criticized”

在中国历史上,关于怎样才是正统,历来被视为是十分重要的问题且众说纷纭。一些著名史学家如陈寿、司马光等均因这一问题受到訾议。其实,史家以谁为正统,标准并不一致,而且无不受到所处时代和政治环境的影响。因此,评价前人的正统观,也必须知人论世。我们今天只有站在中华民族多元一体格局的高度,用历史发展的、民族不断融合的新的历史观来审视几千年历史的变迁,才能把握历史的基本脉络,收到居高临下、纲举目张的效果。

Public opinions are divergent about what is the orthodox, and it has also been traditionally regarded as the veryimportant problem in Chinese history. Some famous historians, such as Chen Shou, Sima Guang, were all criticized. In fact, thestandards are not consistent about who is the most orthodox historian, because they were affected by political environment intheir own ages. Therefore, we must.know eachothers to evaluate the previous orthodox views.Today, we must stand in the heightof the multiplex and integrative strucpne of the Chinese nation to grasp the basic train of history, thus receive the frontier, detailedand clear effect by examining the history of several thousands of years from the new national developing historical perspective.
