Objective To investigate smoking behavior impacting on carotid artery elasticity ,Echo-track-ing technique (ET ) evaluation of carotid artery w all elasticity in smokers w as used .Methods 1 2 9 cases of male smokers and 46 cases of non-smokers were selected when their physical examination results were normal ,and the later was as group A .According to the index of smoking ,1 2 9 smokers were divided into three groups ,group B(0 ≤BI≤2 0 0 ) ,group C(2 0 0 〈BI≤4 0 0 )and group D(BI〉4 0 0 ) .The carotid intima-media thickness (IM T )、systolic diameter (Ds) and diastolic diameter (Dd) were detected using ET technology ,and the stiffness index (beta) 、pressure strain elastic coefficient (Ep)、arterial compliance (AC) and single pulse wave velocity (PWVβ) were calculated in each group .Common carotid artery elasticity in different smoking index groups were com-pared .Result There were no significant differences in IM T、Ds and Dd between control Group (A)and smok-ing groups ,but the statistical significance different of β,Ep ,AC ,and PWV βbetween 4 groups existed( P〈0 .0 1 ) ,Compared A with B group ,there was no statistical difference ,differences between in 2 random groups of 3 smoking groups was statistically significant(P〈0 .01 ).β、Ep、PWVβwere increased and AC decreased with the smoking index increase .Conclusion ET can detect the change of smokers artery elastic function earlier .T he changes of blood vessel elasticity function is earlier than morphological .
