9～10世纪，拜占庭帝国多次击溃唯武是崇的罗斯军队，树立起强国形象，使罗斯人折服于有宗教支撑的强大政权，基督教的声望大增。拜占庭帝国利用与罗斯人的和平条约完成了对罗斯的经济制衡和文化控制，进而使基督教顺利传播，在罗斯周边国家或臣民皈依之后，赢得罗斯对基督教的向往和皈依。拜占庭帝国多管齐下，使社会组织相对简单的罗斯人难以抗拒，不得不走出野蛮状态，步入基督教（东正教）文明圈。

From the 9th century to the 10th century, the Byzantine Empire defeated martial Russia several times and established powerful image, so the Russians submitted to the powerful religious regime and Christian was popular. Through peace treaties, the Byzantine Empire took the dominant position in Russian economic balance and cultural control,which made Christian spread in Russia easily. After the countries or the people around Russia had converted to Christian under the influence of the Byzantine Empire, Russia had to step into the Christian world. The Byzantine Empire employed many methods to convert Russia from a comparatively simple and savage society to a Christian civilization circle.
