Mian,which is a section in The Book of Odes,praises the good morality and achievements of King Ji Dan,and reveals the natural basis of politics: the land,laboring and the people. It describes Ji Dan's selfless personality as a king and his administration of a nation similar to King Ji Chang's. This paper gives a contrastive analysis of the canonical significance of Mian in The Book of Odes,that is,returning to the origin and acting according to the natural course,and expounds the features and significance of the good kings in classical Chinese poetry.
