In 2014, Mexico is estimated to export 1.69 million cars to U.S. topping the 1.51 million from Japan; by 2015, the number will climb to 1.9 million, topping 1.87 million from Canada. By that time, Mexico will become the largest auto export country to the U.S market. As early in 1960s, American car companies started to build assembly plants in Mexican cities next to U.S.-Mexico borders. Its strategy is to import Mexico build cars back to U.S. to take the advantage of low labor cost as well as currency exchange rate. Many auto component suppliers followed customers' footprints and established production facilities in Mexico as well. During the same period of time, Japanese car companies also followed the track. Nissan built its first Mexican plant in 1966 and had grown to three assembly plants in two cities today. Their early presence has won Nissan a significant auto brand in Mexico.
