The lifetime of piston mould in gravity casting has a close relationship with the following factors： the metallurgical quality of mould material, mechanical machining process, hot machining process （ including heat treatment, process design of mould structure and mould fitting precision）, mould working environment and mould maintenance. This article puts forward many measures applied in actual production to improve the lifetime based on the consideration of the facors affecting mould lifetime such as choosing mould material, mould machining, heat treatment, casting process, cooling and maintenance.
