An Alternative Explanation of the Term“Sou Lao”

"搜牢"一词,众说纷纭,似乎成了一桩悬案,有将其理解为动宾结构的,即"搜军饷、军粮","搜取雇佣费";有将其理解为同义复合词的,即"搜搂","搜索而聚集之也";或将其理解成连绵词的。文章从对"牢"字的训释和从语法角度对"搜牢"这个词加以重新审视,得出"搜牢"乃同义复合词,当作掳掠讲,后感情色彩淡化,可泛指搜索义。

Considering that the term ＂Sou Lao＂carries different pragmatic senses,there are many discussions and different opinions around it. Some scholars argue that it is a V＋P structure,some consider it as a binding word,while others assume that this word must be typed as a synonymous-paratactic one.According to its multiple lexical and pragmatical senses,this paper analyzes the foregoing explanations and concludes a synonymous-paratactic word and its meaning could be generally described as＂search＂.
