The Translation and Dissemination of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi in the English World (From 1842 to 1949)

本文以各种史料为基础,对建国前《聊斋志异》的百年英译历程做历时性描述研究,同时从共时的维度宏观分析翟理斯译本出现前后的两个阶段的具体特征,并从深层接受心理的维度诠释《聊斋》在英语世界得以经典化的成因。作为中国文学作品走出去的典范,《聊斋》在英语语境中的经典化对当下的中国文学文化走出去具有启示意义,但也让我们对英语世界普遍存在之东方想象导致的文本误读进行反思。

Based on detailed and reliable documentations,this paper,on the one hand, gives a diachronic description research on the translation and dissemina-tion of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi in the English world from 1842 to 1949,and discusses the different characteristics of two periods synchronically,on the other,in an attempt to expound the reception psychology of the canonization of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi. As a successful model of Chinese literature works going out,Liao Zhai Zhi Yi is helpful to contemporary Chinese literature's dissemination abroad,and its reception status also provokes us to rethink the misreading of Chinese image caused by oriental imagination from the west.
