摘要
以文本分析方法,分析《中国的语言与文学:演讲录》(The Language and Literature of China:Two Lectures,1876)翻译中涉及的威妥玛拼音的识别与转写、欠额译文的原文本考证、生僻典故与史实的识别与考证三方面的回译困难,最后指出回译工作当以文本考证、史实互证、错谬更正为己任,在本质上属于学术性翻译行为。
This paper,based on critical textual analysis,analyzes the difficulties of back-translating The Language and Literature of China： Two Lectures（ 1876） into Chinese in terms of the recognition and transliteration of Chinese names in the system of Wade-Giles Romanization,and the textual criticism of under-translations and the historical facts,expounds the way a translator solves the problems in the translation process,and finally points out that retroversion work is by nature academic translation,with textual criticism,historical research and error correction as back-translators＇ duty.
