从人类进化到直立行走以来,就开始寻找坐下来的地方。椅子,作为家具的代表,在经历了几千年文明的洗礼之后,已经不只是提供坐的工具,是人们生活中不可或缺的一部分,也是承载人类文明及其变革的信息载体之一,受地理位置、文化特点、生活方式等因素的影响、最能体现一个时期的家具发展状态与设计理念。本文以时间为线索,举例探讨了西方社会椅子发展的几个关键转折点,从古代椅子的发展简史和现代椅子的经典案例两个方面加以总结。旨在归纳出西方椅子发展脉络和设计演变,从而反映其社会文化和环境的发展与变化,希望对未来的椅子设计和发展提供一些历史参考与启示。

From humanity evolve into upright walking, human began looking for a place to sit down. Expe- rienced thousands of years of civilizations, the chair now is no longer just a tool to provide a ride. As a best representative reflecting the state of development and design of furniture for the state of a period, chair has become an indispensable part of people＇ s lives. Based on the discussion of several fateful junctures of the development of western chair by examples comparing with the same state of Chinese furniture in the consequence of time, the paper tries to summarize the developments and changes of the western chair through studying the development and change of social, cultural and environmental in order to provide some historical references and recommendations for the future development of chair design.
